Free Mini-Tutorial for Appliqu

Follow these directions to stitch out the free appliqu dress design:

1. Stabilize and hoop your project fabric. For best results use iron-on stabilizer, covering an area larger than the hoop. Depending on the weight of your project fabric, you may need to use another piece of regular tear-away stabilizer. If you do, slip this piece under your hoop before beginning to stitch.
2. Sew stitch sequence #1 which is the dress hanger.
3. Sew stitch sequence #2 which is the Appliqu Material outline stitching.
4. Lay a piece of appliqu fabric that has been backed with fusible webbing over the Appliqu Material stitching. Be sure to cover all the stitching. If you wish, you may use temporary spray adhesive to hold this piece of fabric in place.
5. Sew stitch sequence #3 which is the Appliqu Position outline stitching. This outline will secure the appliqu fabric to the background fabric.
6. Remove the hoop from the machine but do not remove the fabric from the hoop.
7. Using small, sharp scissors with curved blades, trim away the excess appliqu fabric. Trim as close as possible to the stitching line without cutting through the stitches. See resources for helpful trimming scissors from www.tools-gadgets.com.
8. For best results, fuse the appliqu fabric to the background fabric before stitching the final satin stitch edge. (Place the hoop on a hard flat, heat protected surface and use a mini-iron to fuse directly in the hoop.)
9. Put the hoop back in your machine and sew the final stitch sequence #4. This will be the finishing satin stitch edging.

Now wasnt that easy! :)
